American Idol” season 3 champion Fantasia Barrino was admitted to a North Carolina hospital for a drug overdose. It was classified as an attempted suicide, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Fantasia had allegedly been involved in a sex tape scandal with a married mad Hours after reports surfaced, Barrino’s father told the media,  “She’s doing fine.”

Manager Brian Dickens told People“Her injuries are not life-threatening. She was dehydrated and exhausted at the time.” Dickens went on to say the 26-year-old is in “stable” condition and will be released from the hospital soon. The incident is said to be part of an ongoing investigation. It comes after Barrino was alleged to be having an on and off again extra-marital affair with Antwaun Cook.

Last week, Cook’s wife filed court documents alleging that Cook and Barrino started a “covert adulterous affair” about this time last year  and it led to the couple’s divorce. Barrino said he was not responsible for breaking up their marriage.

MAMA SOX aka Crystal Bowersox dominated the stage at Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles during the American Idol  finale on Wednesday performing three great songs – Me And Bobby McGee, Black Velvet and Up the Mountain – with all the class of a seasoned performer. Still, she lost the American Idol title to Lee DeWyze (left).

DeWyze, while obviously the favourite to win, appeared to be suffering from stage fright. Just when victory was within his grasp, the former paint salesman got a bad case of the jitters.

On the final performance night, his delivery of The Boxer was a far cry from his previous brilliant performance. He also gave an almost whinny rendition of Everybody Hurts, and the arrangement he did for U2’s A Beautiful Day made it completely pointless.

Still the judges had faith in him. DeWyze looked like he was about to faint when the results were being read out and when it was announced that he had won, he looked paler than he usually was and sang an even worse version of A Beautiful Day which will be his first single.

One thing is for sure: Lee DeWyze really is as nice as he seems. Talking to reporters on Friday, the new American Idol winner could not have been more gracious, thanking each person profusely at the end of each question. It’s clear that the “Everyman” paint-store clerk is still in shock at having won the biggest reality competition on television and can barely fathom everything that’s ahead of him.

Here, the 23-year-old from Illinois talks about why he thinks viewers voted for him, what he hopes for his upcoming album, and how it felt to share the finale with Simon Cowell.

We have a new American Idol! It took two hours and the second coming of the 1970s to get there last night, but a little after 10 pm, Ryan Seacrest announced that the season nine American Idol winner was none other than Lee DeWyze!There was a whole lot of finale last night, which kicked off with the Top 12 singing "School's Out" with Alice Cooper. I think my favorite part of this performance was their outfits. They were all dressed in cute school uniforms, and I just loved it. Other performance highlights included Siobhan Magnus and Aaron Kelly singing with the BeeGees, Mike Lynche singing with Michael McDonald, and one of the biggest surprises of the night, Casey James singing with Bret Michaels. I seriously didn't see that coming at all.

Simon Cowell believes a woman is likely to win his final season on "American Idol." The acerbic British judge told a teleconference Thursday he thinks one of the 12 women among the ninth season's 24 semifinalists has a good shot to win the Fox singing contest. "We've had a few years of guys winning the show, and I would say there is definitely a better chance of a girl winning the show this year, certainly, than last year," Cowell said. Whatever the gender, Cowell, who will leave at the end of the season to executive produce and judge an American edition of "The X Factor," just wants to crown someone relevant. "I'd love to find a Taylor Swift," he said. Lady Gaga is his top pick for a potential music industry mentor to guide this season's contestants, which include platinum-haired crooner Lilly Scott and throwback rocker Tyler Grady. Cowell called the outrageous Lady Gaga the "most relevant pop artist in the world right now."Past mentors have included Gwen Stefani, Dolly Parton, Jamie Foxx and Quentin Tarantino.

Carrie Underwood has a lot to celebrate this holiday season. The former American Idol winner's third album Play On debuted at number one this year, she was nominated for a Grammy and Country Music Award and as of this weekend, she's engaged to be married to boyfriend Mike Fisher.

The engagement was confirmed today by Carrie's spokesperson, Jessie Schmidt. "I'm happy to confirm that Carrie Underwood is engaged to Mike Fisher, and the couple couldn't be happier."

While the details of the engagement have not been confirmed, sources are reporting that Fisher popped the question at his home yesterday surrounded by Carrie's family and friends.

No wedding date has been sent for the country star and professional hockey player.

Congrats to Carrie and Mike! And may we suggest that Carrie keeps her last name? One Carrie Fisher is enough for the entertainment business

When MTV News decided to hold a "Dress As Your Favorite 'Idol' Contestant" contest in honor of the December issue of Elle magazine, we were expecting the diehard fans to deliver the goods. And boy did they!

Fans paid tribute to the styles of stars Kris Allen, Adam Lambert and Allison Iraheta in really fun and creative ways, and we received entries from all over the world. Who knew there were Kris fans in Malaysia?

While there can only be one winner (for each "Idol" contestant), some of these pictures are too fun not to share. So take a gander at some of the great submissions from our contest, in addition to the grand prize winners. Monday night FOX aired "American Idol" winner Carrie Underwood's All-Star Holiday Special. Hoo boy. Video below.

First off, if I wasn't a HUGE Carrie Underwood fan, I would've turned this off after about 15 minutes. They saved the strongest stuff for the end but I would've been gone by then. In fact, the only reason I stuck with it was to see Carrie sing with Dolly Parton.

The opening was Carrie's current hit "Cowboy Casanova." That's fine because it's her big hit right now. But Carrie was wearing a Slutty-Sandy-from-Grease outfit (seriously, they probably had to sew her into it) and she was surrounded by all these creepy male back-up dancers. My boyfriend remarked, "Is this Christmas in Hell?"

The annual White House Tree Lighting is Thursday, Dec. 3 and "American Idol" season 6 winner Jordin Sparks will be on hand to sing.

Jordin is just one of several artists invited to the ceremony, which is traditionally when the President brings a message of peace to the nation before the giant White House Christmas tree is lit.

The tree itself is a Colorado blue spruce planted in 1978. It was 30 ft tall when planted and today is 46 years old and stands almost 42 ft tall. Just a little botanical info for you guys. We're a full-service blog here at Zap2it.
